Dive the Marico Eye (Die Oog)

Slip beneath a floating forest of water-lilies into one of South Africa’s clearest freshwater dives. The Marico Eye is a dolomitic spring and the source of the Marico River, set within the Marico Biosphere Reserve—serene topside, otherworldly below.

Why it’s special

Crystal visibility with lush underwater vegetation and reed “cathedrals” that feel like a living cave.

Gentle depths: lily fields at ~3–5 m, dropping into the spring basin around 12–16 m—perfect for long, relaxed profiles and photography.

Consistent conditions: typically cool-to-mild spring water, roughly ~18–24 °C with frequent 15–20 m+ viz.
