Fishing in the river

Fishing the Marico: clear water, clear ethics

The Marico’s spring-fed pools and gentle runs make for peaceful, rewarding angling. To keep it that way, we fish with care:

  • Yellowfish = protected. Strict catch-and-release only. Use single, barbless hooks, wet your hands, keep fish in the water, unhook quickly, and revive facing into the current.
  • Bass = invasive predators. Selective removal is encouraged where permitted. Please follow humane dispatch methods and landowner/regulatory rules.
  • Tackle & approach. Light spin or fly gear, small naturals (nymphs/streamers/spinners), long leaders, quiet wading. Dawn and dusk are magic.
  • Do it right. Bring a valid freshwater permit, get landowner permission, pack out all litter, no live bait, and clean–drain–dry gear to prevent the spread of invasives.

MGTA champions low-impact angling so the Marico’s waters stay wild and alive—with yellowfish thriving and biodiversity protected for generations to come.
